New Year’s Resolutions with a Legal Internet Marketing Twist

It is that time of year again to get out your pen and paper, or launch your computer’s writing program, and write down what your goals and resolutions for 2013 will be. There are no restrictions to New Year’s resolutions and you can have as many as you want. You can even keep different lists, for the different aspects of your life. While many people stick to personal goals like, “Exercise at least twice a week,” at SLS Consulting, we believe it is important to also come up with New Year’s resolutions for your law firm.

A Tentative Legal Internet Marketing Resolutions List
Every law firm is different and while general goals may overlap with other firms, it is important to come up with those resolutions that are specific to you and what you want to be better at. Getting to #1 in Google search aside, here are some New Year’s resolutions that may seem small but could do great things with your legal Internet marketing campaign:

  • Pass newsworthy topics to your marketing team – Be proud of your accomplishments. If your firm participated in a toy drive, or a cancer research fundraiser run/walk, or if your attorneys have a top Avvo rating or were just named to SuperLawyers®, they can be announced through press releases. But this doesn’t just happen automatically; your marketing team can only write and publish press releases if you send them the topics.
  • Be social on “social” media – It may seem small, but interacting with potential clients through Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts can give your firm the personalization it needs to set it apart from the other cookie-cutter law firms out there.
  • Facilitate consistent blogging – A blog is a very helpful tool, but it is most effective when there is consistent posting of content. For law firms that have a marketing company writing and publishing blog content, be committed to consistently reviewing and approving blog posts so that they may be published in real time (not backdated).
  • Lights, camera, action! – Videos are a great way to show potential clients who you are while providing them with helpful information. Maybe have the goal of filming one or two videos per month that may be published in blog posts or added to a video library on your website. There is much more of a personal connection between a potential client and an attorney in a video than just words on a page.
